Head Dampers are used to control head flapping or the vertical movement of the main blades during flight. The ratings are based on hardness with 60 degrees being the lowest and 85 being the highest. For beginners, softer dampers are better and for 3D flying the harder dampers are better. The harder dampers will react faster giving it more precise control but with less room for error.
The dampers also become worn with flight and should be replaced if there is too much vertical play in the main blades. They are installed inside the head assembly behind the main blade grips.
